Meet Our Judges

We are excited to welcome Kat Mulkey and Heide Casciaro as the first judges participating in our Judge My Ride program. As the program continues to grow, we look forward to adding even more experienced judges to our panel.

Kat Mulkey earned her USEF 'R' license in Hunters, Hunt Seat Equitation, and Hunter Breeding in 2017 after mentoring with Mike Rosser. She has since also earned her 'R' license in Jumpers. Kat has judged numerous USEF "AA," "A," and "B" rated competitions across the country and has also served as a judge at the IHSA, IEA, and NCEA National Championships.

In addition to judging, Kat has more than 32 years of experience training riders to regional and national championships. She has been a USHJA Certified Trainer since the program's inception in 2009 and continues to teach, ride, and conduct clinics throughout the United States.

Heide Casciaro is also a USEF 'R' judge and USHJA Certified Trainer. A graduate of Hollins University, Heide represented the school at the IHSA National Championships, where she won the prestigious Cacchione Cup twice. In recognition of her accomplishments and contributions to collegiate equestrian sport, she was inducted into the IHSA Hall of Fame in 2026.

Kat Score & Comments

Score: 84

Overall, this is a solid round with a quality horse that jumps in good form.  He carries a lovely expression and a great rhythm.  I never see him trot in this video, but he looks to be a decent mover with good balance.  Just a note- if judging in person, I would need to see him trot for soundness at the end of the round in order to give him a score.

You canter directly to jump one which is important in the handy.  You look to be a little close to that jump, but he still jumps in good form.  It can be a little hard to tell how handy you are being when watching a video, but it looks like you turn back quickly enough to jump two.  He jumps that in good form, and you turn back very quickly to the trot jump.  You are very handy there.  He jumps the trot jump well and you move up nicely to the oxer.  You look a hair deep again here, but he pats the ground and still jumps it well.  He jumps the next jump very well, and you roll back to the oxer.  You are a bit long here, and he has to stretch slightly to get across the back rail.  It looks like there may have been a tighter inside turn option there, but it is still a nice roll back.  I love how you pick up your pace before the two stride, and those two jumps are my favorite jumps of the course.  You get the most power and best jumping efforts here, especially the jump out of the two stride.

It looks like you are handy enough, but not super handy (other than the turn to the trot jump which is very handy).  You find the jumps well with a couple distances that are slightly deep or long.  Your horse handles all of it very well. I love how he lands on almost all the leads.  A solid round.
